Plantain Bar with a Fusion of South America

Plantain Bar was brought to light by Lennis Hernandez Aprarcero and his wife, Joan. Bringing a Caribbean feel to the city of Austin was something Aprarcero wanted to introduce Austin to. He has done so by creating dishes that have a mixture of Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Peru. On their fusion menu, you can find delicious fatty Lechon, tostones, empanadas, and Arepitas.

AUSTIN, TEXAS - Oct. 10 , 2022, What started as a conversation about food from around the world, Aprarcero and his wife were quick to propose Puerto Rican food to the community of Austin and invested in an opportunity. What was a small pop-up tent with six tables, music, and a hashtag (#toston) got the ball rolling. This quick small investment turned into a family-inviting location in South Austin. Plantain Bar lives up to its name using the three life cycles, green, yellow, and dark yellow, and its dishes live through them.

Aprarcero has been a local of Austin since his high school years. He was raised with diversity; his mother is from Venezuela, and his father is from Puerto Rico. You can only imagine the Latin cuisines being made in his home. As he was in high school, he wanted to just be in touch with his culture and what was being portrayed in his home. Opening Plantain Bar allowed him to invite others into his childhood and his wife's culture of Peru. Aside from traveling and taking in the different cultures from other states, Austin is where they call home.

"My wife and I just wanted to lay down some roots," Aprarcero said.

Plantain Bar puts on a different special that comes from their heart and background every week. You can taste dishes for brunch or have a good Latin dinner with plantain sides that the whole family can enjoy. The atmosphere at Plantain Bar is kid-friendly and family-friendly, with shaded areas to dine in and a playground for the kids to enjoy. Located at Thicket Food Park is filled with other trailers that offer different cuisines and live music every weekend and is BYOB.

Plantain Bar is dedicated to bringing fresh and good food to people all around, offering 100 percent gluten-free dishes and some vegan options. Supporting those from afar, recently, a fundraiser took place in support of those in Puerto Rico who were affected

by Hurricane Fiona.
